The Olivia and Hill Press
As supervisor of the French basic courses at Wayne State University in Detroit, it became evident to me that many students did not understand terms such as verb, noun and conjugation. The problem became more acute when teaching direct and indirect object pronouns. This led to numerous handouts — teaching English grammar, What is a Verb, What is a Noun . . .
I founded The Olivia and Hill Press in 1979 and our first publication was English Grammar for Students of French. The approach was subsequently adapted to nine other languages that have gone through many editions. There are now over 2 million O&H Study Guides in students’ hands in the USA, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.
